Avis' Approach to Corporate Social Responsibility Every business needs to take action to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. Since 1997 Avis Budget EMEA Ltd has actively reduced its emissions.
Carbon offsetting is imperative for these projects as without the carbon financing monies they would not exist. CarbonNeutral® Rentals In certain countries across Europe customers can join in the Avis Europe drive towards reducing carbon emissions too by offsetting their rental emissions when they book online. Practical steps to reduce our environmental impact Steps taken include changing the fleet regularly to ensure they operate as efficiently as possible and introducing more environmentally-friendly vehicles in more locations. At the European HQ we continue to measure and reduce carbon emissions to net zero through internal reduction initiatives such as improving operation efficiencies, reduced lighting and waste recycling through external reductions which is through carbon offsetting. Managing Corporate Social Responsibility Board level responsibility for CSR rests with the Chief Executive of Avis Europe. In our corporately-owned operations, CSR management and monitoring is assigned to local management. Avis Budget EMEA Ltd is a member of the FTSE4Good Index and the Kempen/SNS Smallcap SRI Europe Index Driving Tips Did you know the way you drive your car can reduce the amount of CO2 you emit - and help to reduce your impact on global warming? It can also save you money - fuel consumption can vary by up to 45% on the same route, while reducing accidents. Follow our road rules for a cleaner climate, and help Avis' drive for a greener future 1. Look after your car: Check your tyre pressure. Driving with under-inflated tyres decreases your fuel efficiency and the lifetime of the tyres. Driving for 100 miles with your tyres at the correct pressure could save 1kg of CO2. 2. Watch your speed: Watch how fast you are travelling at: keep your speed at a lower level and be consistent with your speed. If you rapidly accelerate then this will directly increase the amount of CO2 emissions and you will also use more fuel.
3. Don't dawdle: If you get stuck in traffic for more than a minute turn off your engine - but only if it is safe to do so. Switch off your engine for one minute a day for a year and you will save 1kg of CO2. 4. Look at alternative greener fuel options: When you are purchasing or hiring your next vehicle you should switch from a petrol solution to a more fuel-efficient vehicle such as a diesel engine or an electric city car - these alternative vehicles will reduce your CO2 emissions. Longer term you will also save money through purchasing cheaper fuel. A 1.4 litre vehicle for 50 miles per week fuelled on: Petrol will produce 0.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum, Diesel will reduce this to 0.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum and, 5. Look at reducing the size of the engine that you drive: Vehicles with smaller engines are not only cheaper to purchase, save money on fuel but also help the environment by producing less CO2 emissions. Decreasing the size of the vehicle will directly decrease the amount of CO2 emissions produced: A 2 litre petrol vehicle will produce 1.2 tonnes of CO2 compared to, A 1.4 litre petrol vehicle which will produce 0.8 tonnes of CO2. 6. Change how you start your car in cold weather: When starting from cold, it is not necessary to run your car at idle for more than 30 seconds before pulling away. Idling at cold produces more emissions than at any other time. 7. Use your air vents rather than air conditioning: During the cooler months of the year, operate your air vents in the 'economy mode' and utilise the air vents rather than air conditioning to ventilate the car. 8. Drive smarter: Use defensive driving techniques and avoid aggressive acceleration and braking will not only produce fewer emissions, but will make your journey more comfortable for you and your passengers. 9. Check your boot: Additional weight in your car will increase the use of fuel and CO2 emissions. Before setting off on a journey, check whether you are driving around with unnecessary heavy items in your boot. Non NeutralCarbon NeutralCarbon NeutralCarbon Neutraleut |
